Penn State Men’s Hockey’s Gavin McKenna Waives Preliminary Hearing For Assault Case

Penn State men’s hockey’s Gavin McKenna waived the preliminary hearing for his assault case after a January 31 incident in downtown State College, according to court documents.

McKenna was originally set to appear before a Centre County magisterial court on Wednesday, March 11. Penn State is set to play Minnesota in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals on the same day at 7 p.m. at Pegula Ice Arena. He is now set to appear at a formal arraignment in the Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas on April 8.

State College police originally charged McKenna with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault, and two summary offenses for disorderly conduct and harassment when he struck a 21-year-old and caused facial injuries in January. McKenna’s felony charge was dropped after police and the District Attorney’s office reviewed footage of the incident.
