Report: Penn State Lady Lions Guards Moriah Murray & Shayla Smith To Enter Transfer Portal

The exodus continues.

Penn State Lady Lions guards Moriah Murray and Shayla Smith are planning to enter the transfer portal, per Talia Goodman of On3. Smith has three years of eligibility remaining, while Murray has just one.

Murray spent three years at Penn State after spending her true freshman season redshirting at Drexel before transferring in 2023. The 5’9″ guard has been a key starter for the Lady Lions the last two years, averaging 9.4 points and 3.1 rebounds on 39.8% from 3 in 2025-26, the best mark on the team.

Smith, a Philadelphia native, played 20 games and started two in her true freshman season, averaging 2.6 points and 2.6 rebounds on 35.8% from the field.

Their departures continue a mass exodus from the program following the firing of head coach Carolyn Kieger after back-to-back last-place finishes in the Big Ten. Of the nine players with remaining eligibility from this year’s team, seven have entered the transfer portal, leaving only rising sophomore Viktoria Ranisavljevic and rising junior Shaelyn Steele on the roster for new head coach Tanisha Wright.
