No Refund Theatre Presents: ‘Heroes Of The Fourth Turning’

This week, No Refund Theatre is presenting its penultimate show for the semester: “Heroes of the Fourth Turning,” written by Will Arbery. The show, directed by Olivia Sarsfield, is a story of four college graduates returning to their old stomping grounds after all those years.

After a party for the college’s newly-elected president — the mother of one of the characters, played by Judith Oller — the old friends talk as the night grows later and later. As the night grows later, the friends talk (and debate) about a wide range of topics, mostly revolving around their beliefs — both religious and political.

As the night goes on, each character’s feelings become more and more clear, and their contrasting beliefs separate them and bring them back together again. From the other side of the party line, each of these may be lumped together into one big red blob, but the nuance and feelings of each of them — portrayed perfectly — show that not everything is so simple, even when on the surface they believe in the same things.

Each of the actors — Arnav Aggrawal (for press night, Cash Cashour took this part), Julia Carestia, Elaine Paulk, Grace Wallin, and Judith Oller — manages to bring their characters to life with the nuance needed to pull this sort of show off. Each character is not only fighting the others, but their own demons and issues, and of course, their faith and beliefs. Even people who stand on the polar opposite side will leave Forum 111 with something to think about.

Catch NRT’s production of “Heroes of the Fourth Turning” at any of their three shows this weekend, from April 9-11. All three will begin at 8 pm in Forum 111.

“I still would’ve made great friends, had a great time, and finished without everything figured out. I couldn’t be more happy this is the way things did go, though.”
