An Open Letter To Mention Penn State In ‘The Pitt’

The long-awaited season two finale of “The Pitt” airs Thursday night on HBO Max. Many fans have questions like “Will Robby really leave?” “Where is baby Jane Doe?”, and “Will Langdon stay sober?”
The question we have is: “Where are the Nittany Lions?”
The fan favorite show took over the internet last year and stole a lot of hearts, including mine. Still, there hasn’t been a single mention of the state’s largest university.
Nurse Jesse and a patient were taken to the ICE detention center in Clearfield, which is only 40 minutes from Happy Valley. There is no excuse for not mentioning Pennsylvania’s favorite college.
Penn State is ranked No. 88 nationally in medical school rankings, according to Admit.org. If they didn’t attend Penn State for their doctorate, I am sure at least one of the doctors, day or night shift, attended Penn State as an undergraduate.
Enough about the doctors, we all know that the nurses in “The Pitt” steal the show. Penn State has the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing. According to USNews.com, the program slots in at No. 40 nationally. Third and fourth-year students spend a year at Hershey Medical Center for clinical experience. At University Park, there are around 600 students in the nursing program and over a thousand at the commonwealth campuses.
We can all see charge nurse Dana smoking a cigarette at a White Out tailgate and getting kicked out for screaming profanities, so let’s make it happen, writers.
Now, the emergency department staff isn’t the only way to throw a bone to the Nittany Lions. The waiting room in the show is always packed. I am sure that at least one of the patients they see throughout their 15-hour shift went to Penn State.
A great way to include the Nittany Lions would be to have a season in the fall. I am not too familiar with Pittsburgh, but there are probably plenty of bars that could get heated with Penn State football watch parties.
I can see it now: Ohio State and Penn State fans get into a nasty bar fight, and they’re brought into the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Based on the characters’ personalities, Mel doesn’t understand why football is such a big deal, Whitaker is a huge Nebraska fan, Santos thinks the whole thing is barbaric, and per tradition, there’s a bet going on in the security office.
That’s an Emmy-winning episode.
Even if this magical episode never comes to our screens, we Penn Staters need some representation.
I know this is a lot to ask, but even someone in a Penn State shirt would warm our hearts. Give us something, Noah Wyle. Maybe Dr. Robby can be a Nittany Lion?
Now, the final episode of season two airs tonight, so there is one more hour for a Penn Stater to appear on our screens. If not, there’s always next season.
