Nittany Lions In The NHL/AHL: Regular Season Roundup

Between late-season signings, call-ups, and an NHL debut, Penn State hockey has made plenty of noise at the professional level this year.

Most guys only appeared in a handful of games after being picked up following Penn State’s NCAA Tournament exit, but still made the most of their time.

So with the AHL and NHL regular seasons now wrapped up, it’s a good time to look at how Penn Staters performed in the pros this year.

Arsenii Sergeev, Calgary Wranglers/Calgary Flames

Arsenii Sergeev began the season in the ECHL before being called up to the Calgary Wranglers in December, where he then split time in net throughout the season. Through 29 games in Calgary, Sergeev posted a 6-13-8 record with a 3.35 goals-against average and a .898 save percentage.

Despite the numbers, Sergeev was called up ahead of the Calgary Flames’ final regular-season game against the Los Angeles Kings due to an illness in the team’s goaltending group. Sergeev made the most of his opportunity, stopping 27 of 28 shots in his NHL debut for a .964 save percentage, earning the win and the first star of the game. He will report back to the Wranglers for the Calder Cup, where he is one of four goalies listed on the team’s roster.

Sergeev became the first Calgary goaltender to make his debut in the ECHL, AHL, and NHL in the same season.

Aiden Fink, Milwaukee Admirals/Nashville Predators

After finishing his junior campaign at Penn State, Aiden Fink signed an amateur tryout agreement (ATO) with the Milwaukee Admirals. In just six games, Fink recorded three goals and seven assists for 10 points, becoming one of Milwaukee’s most productive forwards in the top-six. His best performance came in the form of a four-assist game against the Cleveland Monsters, also stringing together a five-game point streak in his time there.

His strong start earned him a two-year, entry-level contract with the Nashville Predators and a late-season call-up to the NHL roster, where he practiced with the team. Fink was scheduled to make his NHL debut on April 16, but wasn’t able to due to immigration issues. Because he signed an NHL contract, Fink is ineligible to return to Milwaukee for the playoffs.

Jarod Crespo, San Jose Barracuda

Joining the San Jose Barracuda for the final stretch of the regular season on an ATO, Jarod Crespo delivered in his two games as an AHL defenseman. He recorded a goal and an assist in two games, including scoring the overtime game-winning goal against Bakersfield in his second game, scooping up a rebound and finishing a forehand to backhand move to secure the win.

Crespo will stay with the Barracuda heading into the postseason, as he is currently listed on the team’s official Calder Cup Playoff roster. San Jose is set to face the Henderson Silver Knights in the opening round.

Matt DiMarsico, Colorado Eagles

After signing a two-year, entry-level contract with the Colorado Avalanche, Matt DiMarsico joined the Colorado Eagles for what was left of the 2025-26 regular season.

In seven games, DiMarsico scored one goal and added two assists. His strongest performance came against the Barracuda on April 5, scoring a goal and adding an assist, also earning the second star of the game.

He will now head into the Calder Cup with the Eagles, who are set to face the San Diego Gulls in a 2-versus-7 matchup, with Game 1 scheduled for Wednesday, April 22.

Kevin Reidler

Kevin Reidler signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Ottawa Senators and joined the Belleville Senators on an ATO, with his contract set to begin next season.

Reilder appeared in two games with Belleville, posting a 1-1 record with a 3.50 goals-against average and a .877 save percentage. He turned aside 50 of 57 shots across his two games, including a 28-save game to earn his first win.

Reidler did not make Belleville’s postseason roster for 2026.

Simon Mack

Although not a part of Penn State’s 2025-26 roster, Simon Mack spent multiple seasons in Hockey Valley before his career turned pro. Mack opened the season in the ECHL, and after recording three assists in four games, he was recalled by the Calgary Wranglers.

In 26 regular-season games this season, Mack tallied two assists.
