Flint Firebirds goaltender Mason Courville has committed to Penn State men’s hockey, he announced on Instagram Monday afternoon.

He will join the Nittany Lions for the 2028-29 season, per Hockey Commitments on X.

Courville is a 16-year-old from Palmyra, Pennsylvania, who stands at 6’1″ and 181 pounds. He spent the 2025-26 season with the Flint Firebirds of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

In 18 games during his first OHL season, Courville posted an 8-8-1-1 record with a 3.06 goals-against average, .893 save percentage, and one shutout. He was named the Firebirds Rookie of the Year this past season.

At 15 years old and 363 days, Courville was the youngest OHL goalie to record a shutout since December of 2007.

Earlier this month, Courville backed the United States to a silver medal in the 2026 Hinzla Gretzky Cup. He appeared in three games and recorded a 2.14 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage, leading all goaltenders in the tournament in goals-against average.

Before joining the Firebirds, Courville played for the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Knights 15U AAA, where he went 14-4-4 with a 2.09 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage during 2024-25.

The Firebirds selected him 55th overall in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection.

Courville is eligible for the 2028 NHL Entry Draft.
