Penn State Baseball Cancels Matchup Against No. 19 West Virginia

Penn State baseball’s midweek match against No. 18 West Virginia has been canceled due to forecasted rain, the team announced Wednesday. The game was scheduled as the final Dollar Dog Night of the season, but the team has not announced if that has also been canceled.

Wednesday night’s matchup is the third scheduled game against the Mountaineers and second one to be canceled. In its only played game against No. 18 West Virginia on April 15, Penn State lost 3-1.

However, the last time Penn State hosted West Virginia for a Dollar Dog Night, the Nittany Lions won 3-2, and fans set a record of 12,112 hot dogs eaten. No games last season besides the Mountaineers eclipsed 8,000 hot dogs, though the most recent Dollar Dog Night on April 21 totaled 9,319 hot dogs eaten.

Disregarding the fact that Penn State fans had an opportunity to set a new record during Wednesday’s game, the Nittany Lions also had an opportunity to set the record straight on their season as they come down the home stretch fighting for a spot in the Big Ten Tournament.

Penn State has three Big Ten weekend series remaining on its schedule — two at Medlar Field and one away. It hosts Minnesota, a bottom-five team in the Big Ten, over the weekend, with the first game set for 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 1.

All three games will be broadcast on BTN+.
