Lady Lions Add Two Players To Roster

Penn State women’s basketball is continuing to build its roster for the 2026-27 season during the offseason, as head coach Tanisha Wright added transfers Ava Black and Devyn Quigley through the transfer portal.

Black, a sophomore forward transferring from Vanderbilt, became Wright’s first portal addition of the offseason. Quigley, a junior guard from NC State, marked the second addition.

“We are so excited for Ava and her family to join the Penn State Community and become a part of helping us rebuild the Lady Lion program,” Wright said in the program’s release. “Ava is such a unique talent because she impacts the game in so many essential ways.”

On Quigley, Wright added: “Adding Devyn to our team is a big step forward for the Lady Lion program. Devyn is poised to make an immediate impact from day one. To say we’re thrilled would be an understatement.”

Black arrives in Happy Valley after appearing in 30 games during her freshman season at Vanderbilt. The Auburn, New Hampshire, native averaged 2.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, 0.7 steals, and 0.6 assists per game while shooting 52.2% from the field.

She helped Vanderbilt advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time since the 2008-09 season after the Commodores earned a No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Black recorded a career-best 12 points on five-of-six shooting in Vanderbilt’s first-round NCAA Tournament win over High Point and later secured a career-high nine rebounds against Kentucky.

Before college, Black played at Tabor Academy, where she helped lead the program to a New England Preparatory School Athletic Council Class AA championship during her freshman season while earning All-NEPSAC Class AA first team honors.

Black also attended the 2023 USA Women’s Basketball U16 National Team trials and competed for the Bay State Jaguars on the AAU circuit.

Quigley joins the Lady Lions after spending her first two collegiate seasons at NC State, where she helped the Wolfpack make back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 run in 2025.

As a sophomore, Quigley played 29 games while making six starts and averaged 4.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game.

The Manchester, New Jersey, native secured three double-figure scoring performances during the season, including a career-high 14 points on five-of-eight shooting against Wake Forest.

She closed her sophomore season with 11 points and four rebounds while playing a career-high 30 minutes against two-seeded Michigan in NCAA Tournament Round 32.

Quigley also made an impact during her freshman season, appearing in 33 games and averaging 8.3 minutes per contest. She contribued 8.3 points per game on 40.3% shooting from the field alongside 1.3 rebounds per game.

Her freshman campaign consisted of her career-high 20-point performance against Coastal Carolina, where she shot 8-of-13 from the field and 4-of-7 from the 3-point range.

During NC State’s NCAA Tournament run that season, Quigley added four points, three rebounds, and one steal in the first round before scoring three points against Michigan State in the Round of 32 to help the Wolfpack advance to the Sweet 16.

Coming out of high school, Quigley was ranked as the No. 47 player in the 2024 HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings and earned an ESPN scouts grade of 94 as a four-star recruit.

At Manchester Township High School, she set the Shore Conference girls basketball career scoring record with 2,627 points.

Quigley averaged 32.7 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 3.9 steals per game as a senior after averaging 34.8 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 3.8 steals per contest during her junior year.

She was named Shore Sports Network Player of the Year three times, earned multiple All-State honors, and was a McDonald’s All-America Game nominee.
