Third Planet Coffee Brewers Set To Open In State College

There will soon be another spot in State College to grab a cup of coffee on your morning commute, but this one is taking a different approach.
Third Planet Coffee Brewers is under construction at 300 Allen Street, where owner Frank Yeager is transforming a former office space into a 950-square-foot coffee shop. The business is aiming for a mid-October opening.
Rather than sticking with one coffee company, Third Planet will rotate through beans from specialty roasters across the country.
Yeager plans to launch with coffee sourced from Little Wolf Coffee in Ipswich, Massachusetts; Abracadabra Coffee Co. in Woodstock, Vermont; and Push Pull in Portland, Oregon.
The idea is to give customers a chance to sample coffees without having to travel far and wide.
The menu will center around light-roast, single-origin coffees, with espresso-based drinks like cappuccinos, flat whites, and lattes making up a majority of the lineup.
There won’t be much space for a full kitchen, but customers can still expect more than just coffee.
Yeager is already talking about getting sourcing pastries from local bakeries, including Chew Chew Bun and The Cakeshop by Tati. According to Yeager, the university community has helped fuel the interest in specialty products over the past decade.
“We work with some of the country’s best roasters, who hunt down the producers that treat coffee less like a crop and more like a craft,” the restaurant’s website reads. “Our lineup changes, keeps you guessing, and might just wreck your idea of what coffee is ‘supposed’ to taste like.
While the coffee menu is starting to take shape, the physical space still has plenty of work ahead. Plumbing and electrical work recently wrapped up, and fixtures are expected to begin moving into the space soon.
Yeager plans to use the space for high-top seating, banquettes, and other furniture designed to create a lounge atmosphere.
Once the doors open, Third Planet Coffee Brewers plans to serve customers from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends.
