Penn State Men’s Lacrosse To Face Army In First Round Of NCAA Tournament

Penn State men’s lacrosse will face Army in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the selection committee announced on Sunday. The Nittany Lions secured a spot after their win against Johns Hopkins in the Big Ten Championship on Saturday afternoon.

Penn State will play in the NCAA Tournament for its fourth consecutive year after losing in the semifinals last season against Cornell. The Nittany Lions finished the regular season 9-5 and 3-2 in conference play. It was an unusual season for Penn State, as four out of those five losses were against teams that were unranked or ranked lower than it.

Despite this, the team had three wins against top-10 opponents.

Penn State had four players tabbed to All-Big Ten teams. Alex Ross was named to the First Team All-Big Ten, Jon King was named to the Second Team All-Big Ten, and Jack Iannantuono and Preston Hawkins were named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. Iannantuono was further named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, which was the second straight year a Penn Stater received the accolade.

Army finished the year 13-3 and 6-2 Patriot League play. The Black Knights are currently riding a seven-game win streak and won their conference title game against Loyola Maryland 14-7 on Sunday. Senior midfielder Evan Plunkett leads the squad with 62 points on the year.

Penn State and Army will face off 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, at Panzer Stadium. The Nittany Lions earned home-field advantage by virtue of their Big Ten title.
