Penn State Softball Falls To No. 3 Nebraska 13-5 On Senior Day

The Penn State Nittany Lions (32-20, 11-13 Big Ten) fell to No. 3 Nebraska (42-6, 23-1 Big Ten) 13-5 on Sunday afternoon.
Seniors Cara Bohner, Madison Seidel, and Jordyn Jochims were celebrated as seniors departing the program.
How It Happened
Jordy Frahm got the Husker bats going with a single down the first base line, and Hannah Coor followed up with a bunt. Lauren Camenzind reached on a fielderās choice, and Frahm scored on a throwing error. Ava Kuszak doubled to right center, scoring two, and Nebraska earned an early 3-0 lead. Despite two walks in the inning, the Nittany Lions recorded no hits in the first.Ā
Abigail Britton took to the circle, giving up just one hit in the second, a single from Frahm. Michela Barbanente notched the Nittany Lionsā first hit of the game. Frankie Flesher was hit by a pitch later on in the inning, but both runners were left stranded. Nebraska continued to lead 3-0.Ā
Jesse Farrell blasted a home run to left center to kickstart a five-run Husker inning. Emmerson Cope and Kacie Hoffmann hit back-to-back singles, and Samantha Bland reached on an error to load the bases. Camenzind doubled up the middle to score two, and Frahm hit a sacrifice fly to score Bland.
Coor then singled to left field to send Camenzind home, and the Huskers took a commanding 8-0 lead. Penn State scored three runs of its own to help cut the deficit. Kaylie Walters singled to third base, followed by an Allison Oneacre double. Brooke Klosowicz hammered a shot over center field, but the Nittany Lions still trailed 8-3 after three innings.Ā
McKenna Young came on to pitch for the Nittany Lions. Farrell doubled down the third base line, and Hoffmann singled to short to score her. Nebraska tacked on another run to make the score 9-3. Madison Seidel, Frankie Flesher, and Breanna Hanik loaded the bases with singles before Jordan George hit a sacrifice fly to bring a run in. The Huskers still led 9-4.Ā
Bridget Nemeth gave up one hit in the fifth, a home run to Frahm, who was 3-3 on the day. Barbanente singled, but was left on base as Nebraska extended its lead to six.
Nebraska continued to rack up runs with Alexis Jensen going yard for a two-run homer. Penn Stateās Hanik cranked a home run of her own, but the Nittany Lions were still down 12-5 heading into the final inning of play.Ā
Frahm hit yet another home run to cap off her impressive game, and the Nittany Lions were retired in order. The Huskers defeated Penn State 13-5.Ā
