Report: Former Penn State Wrestler Lucas Cochran Transfers To Nebraska

Former Penn State wrestler Lucas Cochran is expected to transfer to Nebraska, per Justin Basch. While still questionable after spending five seasons in Happy Valley, the former Nittany Lion likely has one year of eligibility remaining.

Cochran went 36-8 with a 53.6% bonus rate in his five seasons with Penn State. As a career backup, only four of those matches came in dual meets, the majority coming from under-the-radar tournaments. He did have some impressive wins, though, including beating Levi Hopkins, Remy Cotton, and Vincent Mueller. All of which were NCAA qualifiers.

The former heavyweight for Penn State’s eligibility is the question. After redshirting as a freshman and then competing in the next four seasons, he should be out. What he is likely pursuing is a medical redshirt for this past season, when he medically forfeited from the Southern Scuffle on January 3. This year, a precedent has been set in college athletics: with a favorable judge, anything is possible.

Cochran was the first Nittany Lion to enter the portal. He will likely face the Nittany Lions in conference play next season.
