Lady Lions Hire Susan Robinson Fruchtl In Senior Director Position

Penn State women’s basketball has hired Susan Robinson Fruchtl as senior director of advancement and strategic relations, the team announced on Monday.

Fruchtl joined the Nittany Lions’ athletic staff in fall 2021 as the major gifts officer. Prior to that, she spent years coaching women’s basketball as a Penn State assistant from 1993 to 1998 and as the head coach of Saint Francis from 2007 to 2012. She also spent some time with Providence from 2012 to 2016.

The former Nittany Lion basketball player served as the director of athletics at Saint Francis before returning to her alma mater.

During her playing career, Fruchtl finished with 2253 career points, while also averaging 8.8 rebounds per game, 1.6 assists, and 0.3 blocks. The Penn State legend was named a consensus All-American and won the Wade Trophy as the best women’s college basketball player in NCAA Division I in 1992.

The announcement comes shortly after Tanisha Wright, another former Penn State player, was named the program’s seventh head coach.
