Penn State Hoops Makes Four Title Changes To The Staff

Penn State men’s basketball has made four new coaching staff title updates, per its website.
The team promoted Brent Scott to the associate head coach position after being an assistant coach under Mike Rhoades for the past three seasons. Scott began his coaching career at Rice in 2007 and then spent four years as an assistant at LSU. In 2012, he joined TCU’s staff to help with player development and scouting.
Scott then went back to Rice, joining Rhoades’s staff in 2016 and following him to VCU in 2017. He joined Penn State’s staff in 2023 and served as the team’s post player development coach and recruiting coordinator in 2023-24. Scott has played a key role in recruiting and player development for the Nittany Lions.
Alongside Scott, Penn State made two more staff elevations. Patrick Dorney has been made the chief of staff, and Jake Szczecina has been made the director of basketball operations.
Dorney spent the past three seasons as the director of basketball operations. He formerly played under Rhoades and has 11 years of head coaching experience at New Jersey high schools.
Szczecina spent the past three seasons as the video coordinator for the Nittany Lions. In 2023, he was the video coordinator for VCU and followed Rhoades to Penn State. Before joining the VCU staff, he spent two seasons as an assistant coach at East Stroudsburg and has also worked for the NBA statistics production team.
Sam Little will replace Szczecina as Penn State’s video coordinator. Before joining Penn State’s staff, he served as an assistant/video coordinator at Western Michigan under Dwayne Stephens. In 2021, Little was a graduate assistant at Arkansas and then became an assistant coach at Prolific Prep in 2022. He later joined Stanford’s staff in 2023, serving as a video coordinator for the Cardinal.
