$2 million Skate Park Opens In State College

High Point Skate Park opened on Friday at 855 West Whitehall Road inside High Point Park in State College. The 20,000-square-foot concrete park began construction last year.
The park was initially set to cost $1.37 million, according to a contract with a Florida-based New Line Skate Parks, but ended up costing over $2 million. The project was funded through grants and over $100,000 in local donations.
The idea of a skate park in State College first started in 2013 when a local group advocated for it, according to the Centre Daily Times. Professionals such as Gordie Kaufman, John Saxton, Brad Groznik, and Kim Folds were among the group.
“When the borough first began seriously studying the idea of an action sports park more than a decade ago, a lot of people didn’t think this day would ever arrive,” State College Borough Council President Evan Myers said.
