Your Guide To Pride Month In State College

Look for ways to celebrate your LGBTQ+ pride?

State College will host multiple events to honor the history, culture, and civil rights of the LGBTQ+ community. We compiled them to make sure you don’t miss anything this June.

State College Pride Window Display Contest.

From June 1 to June 30, the CentreLGBT+ is holding a storefront window display contest.

Participating stores can decorate their storefront window to show their LGBTQ+ pride. Folks are welcome to vote using the QR code on the windows of the participating stores. A few of the competitors are Chumley’s, Downtown State College Improvement District, and The State Theatre.

Pets & Pride Photo Contest

CentreLGBT+ will also hold a similar competition for pets. All are welcome to send in a photo of their pet dressed up for Pride Month.

Folks can submit their entry, which should consist of one photo of their pet without a caption, to [email protected]. Only one submission is allowed per household.

The deadline to submit a photo is June 16 by 5 p.m. No late submissions will be accepted.

State College Pride Parade

The State College Pride Parade is on June 13 at 10 am. The vehicle portion of the march will start in front of the State College Area High School and go down Westerly Parkway. From there, the walkers will begin with the vehicles up South Allen Street to the Corner Room, turn left on College Ave, and finish in front of the Sidney Friedman Park.

Folks looking to join the parade should register by the end of the day on June 2 or for $5 on June 13. Check in on the day of the march starts at 7:30 a.m. and ends two hours later. Folks can see the info table near the borough building for directions to the right registration table.

Queer Meet-up

Every Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. The Print Factory in Bellefonte will host a queer meet-up for teens and adults. Per the website, Queer, questioning, and allies are welcome to attend.

Folks looking to attend can go to 130 S Allegheny St. in Bellefonte.

State College Pride Festival & After Party

Directly after the State College Pride Parade, CentreLGBTQ+ will host the Pride Festival at Sidney Friedman Park. The event will take place from noon to 2 p.m.

The festival includes performers such as Margot Bevington, Diego Man-Dana, and Thomasin Grace, as well as food vendors. There will also be ice cream to help beat the summer heat.

After the Festival, at 7 p.m., CentreLGBTQ+ is hosting a Pride After Party at The Basement for those 21 or older. The event will feature Pride-themed drinks, a DJ, and photo ops to bring the community together in celebration once again.

The cover for the event is $10.

The Youth Gayla

CentreLGBTQ + is also hosting the Youth Gayla from 7 to 10 p.m. on June 20 at the Millbrook Marsh Nature Center.

The prom-style event will provide a safe place for folks in grades 9 through 12 to dance, listen to music, eat snacks, and take photos. The Youth Gayla is a masquerade-themed event with a $20 entrance fee.

Other Events

CentreLGBTQ+ will continue its regular events throughout June, and newcomers are welcome to join.

Some events include the State College LGBTQ+ Happy Hour on June 5, a Gender Identity Support Group on June 25, and a Golden Group Coffee Talk on Mondays. For more information about upcoming events, folks can visit the CentreLGBTQ+ schedule here.
