Reimagining The EA Sports College Football 27 Cover With Penn State Stars

With a month until the full release of EA Sports College Football 27 to the public, the video game company released its cover art for the game’s standard and deluxe editions.

Oregon quarterback Dante Moore, Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney, and Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy feature on the standard version. They are joined by Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti, Texas linebacker Colin Simmons, USC quarterback Jayden Maiava, and Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore on the Deluxe Edition.

Last season, with the Nittany Lions expected to make a deep playoff run, former running back Nick Singleton and former head coach James Franklin both made the cover.

I guess EA Sports doesn’t have the same high expectations for Carson Hansen and Matt Campbell. Not cool.

That’s ok though, if the video game company won’t give us what we want, we will do it ourselves. Here are three new cover ideas donning the famous black shoes, basic blues, and no names.

All graphics were made by Onward State’s own, Sammy Layman.

Penn State Edition

This one was simple, replacing the original cover will be linebacker Tony Rojas and cornerback Zion Tracy.

Rojas missed most of last season with an injury suffered in the White Out loss to Oregon, but was on pace for an electric season. In four games, the Nittany Lion had 25 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, and one pass defended.

We truly believe he would have been talked about as a member of the cover had he stayed healthy and Penn State won a few extra games.

Tracy is also a special player and will be the veteran leader in one of the most talented cornerback rooms in the country. We know you all remember that pick-six against Ohio State in 2024. It’s time for him to get some more love.

Deluxe Edition

For some reason, EA seems to think Deluxe Editions should just mean more players and coaches. It didn’t really seem like they thought about placement or poses at all while taking the photos. I mean, Cignetti looks like he could be on the cover of “American Pie.”

For our new Deluxe Edition cover, we carefully placed Penn State players, coaches, and mascots in a Star Wars-esque manner.

New head coach Campbell made an appearance, peering off to the right at the national championship trophy he is sure to win for Penn State soon.

Returning impact players Cooper Cousins and Koby Howard are also no the Deluxe Edition.

Cousins played a vital role in retaining talent for the Nittany Lions after Franklin was hired at Virginia Tech and tried to poach players. He is also a likely starter and vocal leader for the new-look Nittany Lion offensive line under Ryan Clanton.

Quinton Martin Jr. is looking opposite Campbell, likely looking at the enormous dinner the head coach is making him eat to gain the

The Nittany Lion, of course, had to be on it because would it really be Penn State football without that furry creature asking if we are ready for the fourth quarter?

The backdrop is the west-facing suites, where all the undefeated, national championship, and Big Ten championship teams are remembered, in honor of those that came before the 2026 team.

White Out Edition

The White Out edition is an extra we threw on top, just in case EA is feeling a little spicy.

We kept it simple on this version of the cover, focusing on what really gives White Out its magic. The people.

Featured in the background is 107,000 (likely more) screaming Penn State fans all dressed in the iconic white. On top of that, you see cornerback Daryus Dixson.

The true sophomore was a breakout star for the Nittany Lions last season and will be a key piece of the defense in 2026. Not only did he put up 24 tackles, two tackles for loss, and three turnovers, but he did all of that while being one of the hardest hitters on the field.

Dixson plays with heart that makes you proud to be a Penn State fan, so we thought he would be the perfect choice for the White Out edition of the video game cover.
