Penn State Men’s Hockey Commit Ryder Fetterolf Drafted No. 125 Overall To Carolina Hurricanes

Another Nittany Lion is off the board.
Penn State men’s hockey commit Ryder Fetterolf was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes with the No. 125 overall pick of the 2026 NHL Draft. He is the third Nittany Lion to hear his name called in this year’s draft.
Fetterolf, who is expected to join the Nittany Lions in the fall, is coming off a breakout rookie season with the Ottawa 67’s of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). The rookie goaltender posted a 29-9-3 record, a league-best 2.07 goals-against average, while also leading the OHL with a .923 save percentage and six shutouts.
Those numbers earned him OHL Goaltender of the Year honors, along with OHL First All-Star Team and OHL First All-Rookie Team. He’s the first rookie goaltender to win the OHL Goaltender of the Year award since Martin Biron in 1994-95.
“Ryder’s success comes as no surprise to anyone who worked with him this season,” 67’s Goaltending Coach Andrew Mercer said. “He’s a committed athlete who constantly looks for ways to improve and embraces the work needed to become an elite goaltender. Watching his development over the year has been incredible, and I’m very proud of him.”
Despite standing at 6 feet tall, Fetterolf emerged as one of the top goaltenders of this year’s class, climbing from No. 16 to No. 11 in NHL Central Scouting’s final North American goaltender rankings.
He will join Josh Fleming on Penn State’s roster for the 2026-27 season, instantly competing for a starting job.
