Former Penn State football wide receiver Julian Fleming reported to jail on Monday to start serving his jail time for a DUI crash that killed his girlfriend last year.

Fleming was sentenced to nine to 23 months in the Bradford County Correctional Facility before six months of probation after he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts of involuntary manslaughter and DUI

He is eligible for work release.

The former wide receiver pleaded guilty in exchange for the dismissal of 11 charges, four of which were felonies, which Bradford County President Judge Maureen T. Beirne approved.

“While we were confident that we could prove Crushshon-Fleming committed a DUI offense, proving the connection between that and the death of the victim would be difficult,” Bradford County District Attorney Richard Wilson said in a written statement.

“While Crushshon-Fleming’s intoxication did not help matters, a jury would likely conclude that the collision with the deer caused the riders to crash, and therefore the victim’s death, not the alcohol intoxication.”

Defense attorney David Bahuriak Jr. told the Centre Daily Times that he believed Fleming was a “stand-up young man” and that he apologized for his actions during the hearing.

His girlfriend, Alyssa Boyd, died in May 2025 when she and Fleming collided with a deer while driving a 2024 Yamaha ATV at about 30 to 40 mph. Boyd, 25, and Fleming were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

Fleming told police after the crash that he had been drinking prior to the incident and recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.118%, over the legal limit of 0.08%.

Bahuriak told the Centre Daily Times that former coaches, mentors, and politicians wrote letters on Fleming’s character before the hearing.

Fleming transferred to Penn State after starting his career with the Ohio State Buckeyes. The former five-star recruit played in 54 games, recording 93 receptions for 1,139 yards and eight touchdowns. In his final collegiate season, in Happy Valley, the receiver caught 14 passes for 176 yards and a touchdown.

He signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2024, but failed his physical exam and never signed with the team.
