Penn State Football Tight End Benjamin Brahmer Named To Lombardi Award Watch List

Penn State football tight end Benjamin Brahmer has been named to the Lombardi Award Watch List, the organization announced on Wednesday.

Brahmer was one of 54 players on the list.

The Lombardi Award is given annually to the best lineman, including linebackers and tight ends, who best display the values of Vince Lombardi. Those values include leadership, courage, performance, and discipline on and off the field.

Brahmer, in his fourth year of eligibility, is coming off a season in which he was voted Second-Team All-Big 12 and was a semifinalist for the John Mackey Award.

The 6-foot-7, 250-pounder caught 37 passes for 446 yards and six touchdowns last season and holds 75 receptions for 977 yards and nine touchdowns in his career.

Brahmer transferred from Iowa State, following Matt Campbell, following the departures of Luke Reynolds and Andrew Olesh to Virginia Tech and Oregon, respectively.

Carl Nassib is the last Nittany Lion to win the award, after he edged out Ohio State’s Joey Bosa, Texas A&M’s Myles Garrett, and Clemson’s Shaq Lawson in 2015. Penn State’s first Lombardi Award winner was Bruce Clark in 1978.

Last season, Zane Durant and Vega Ioane made the watch list.
