Nittany Lions In The NFL: Preseason Week 1 Roundup

The NFL is back, folks!
Sixteen games were played in the first round of the preseason, and plenty of former Penn State football standouts saw the field.
With the regular season kicking off in just a few weeks, here’s how the Nittany Lions showed out in Week 1 of preseason action.
Drew Allar, Pittsburgh Steelers
Drew Allar had an NFL debut to remember, completing 10 of 13 passes for 153 yards, throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for one.
After a rocky end to his Penn State career, Allar is on the road to redemption as the Steelers took the preseason victory over the Green Bay Packers, 28-9.
Kaytron Allen, Washington Commanders
Coming off a successful senior campaign, the running back had 23 carries for 85 yards and a touchdown in the Commanders’ 20-7 win over the Miami Dolphins.
Zakee Wheatley, Carolina Panthers
The fifth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft provided for his defensive impact, totaling seven tackles, three solo, in the Panthers’ 29-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Jalen Kimber, Cincinnati Bengals
Jalen Kimber recorded two tackles, one solo, in a 16-14 win over the Detroit Lions.
Nick Singleton, Tennessee Titans
Nick Singleton had eight carries for 31 yards in the Titans’ 19-13 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
Trebor Pena, Jacksonville Jaguars
Trebor Pena ended his first game with one carry for eight yards and three catches for 58 yards in the Jags’ 24-20 win over the New Orleans Saints.
Dom Deluca, Baltimore Ravens
Dom Deluca, three-time Penn State captain, had three tackles in his first NFL appearance as the Ravens defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 27-7.
Devonte Ross, Los Angeles Chargers
The wide receiver had two catches for 14 yards and a touchdown in the Chargers’ victory over the Houston Texans, 27-7.
Jaylen Reed, Houston Texans
The second-year safety notched five tackles, three being solo, and broke up a pass in the Texans’ 27-7 loss to the Chargers.
Other Notable Performances:
- Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth had one catch for two yards.
- Patriots linebacker Jesse Luketa had one QB hit in a tie game against the Indianapolis Colts.
- Bengals Quarterback Sean Clifford completed one of three passes for two yards.
- Bills defensive tackle Zane Durant notched his first NFL tackle in a 29-14 victory over the Panthers.
- Panthers safety Nick Scott had two tackles, one solo, in their loss to the Bills.
- Arizona Cardinals cornerback Kalen King had a solo tackle in their victory over the Raiders, 27-14.
- Raiders longsnapper Tyler Duzansky recorded his first NFL tackle in their loss to the Cardinals.
- Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Coziah Izzard had a solo tackle for loss in the Brown’s 24-10 loss against the Chicago Bears.
- Titans safety Kevin Winston Jr. had one solo tackle for loss in the Titans’ win over the 49ers.
- Ravens cornerback Amani Oruwariye had one tackle in their win over the Eagles.
- New York Giants linebacker Abdul Carter had one tackle, and tight end Theo Johnson had one catch for six yards in their 13-10 loss against the Minnesota Vikings.
- Giants punter Jordan Stout tallied 292 yards across six punts with a long of 60.
- Cardinals punter Blake Gillikin punted twice for 103 yards, including one punt downed inside the 20-yard line and a long of 53 yards.
