Penn State Football No. 18 In Preseason AP Poll

Penn State football has been ranked No. 18 in the Associated Press (AP) preseason poll, the news agency announced on Monday.
The Nittany Lions were unranked to end the 2025 season after finishing 7-6.
Penn State opened the 2025 season as the No. 2 team in the country with national championship aspirations. The Nittany Lions maintained that rank through the first three weeks of the season, but a bye week and an overtime loss to then-No. 6 Oregon saw them drop to No. 3, then No. 7 in back-to-back weeks.
From there, it was a free fall.
Penn State dropped out of the top-25 in Week 7 after a loss to UCLA and stopped receiving votes by Week 8 after falling to Northwestern.
Now, with Matt Campbell at the helm, the Nittany Lions will look to be back in the upper ranks of college football. On the path to doing so, they will take on No. 16 Michigan, No. 17 Washington, and No. 14 USC this season.
Penn State’s first game of the year is against Marshall on September 5 in the annual Stripe Out game. The game, which will be streamed on FS1, starts at 3:30 p.m.
