Penn State Field Hockey Goalkeeper Aby Deverka Named Big Ten Defensive Player Of The Week
Penn State field hockey goalkeeper Aby Deverka has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Deverka led the Nittany Lions to two wins over Delaware and Villanova, stopping 13-of-14 shots and registering a .929 save percentage across the two contests. She made nine saves against the Blue Hens alone.
Her performance over the weekend helped improve her season goals-against average to 1.22. It is Deverka’s first Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor in her career.
The last Nittany Lion to take home the award was Anouk Knuvers on October 9, 2023.
Deverka and Penn State are back in action in Happy Valley against Princeton at noon on Sunday, September 13.
