Heading to Philadelphia for the Penn State football game against Temple on Saturday? You might as well make a weekend out of it.

Whether you’re arriving early, sticking around after the game, or staying for just the day, there’s plenty to do in the City of Brotherly Love.

Grab Some Classic Philly Food

You can’t visit Philadelphia without eating your way through the city. For a classic Philly experience, stop by Geno’s Steaks or Pat’s King of Steaks for a legendary cheesesteak.

If cheesesteaks aren’t your thing, Reading Terminal Market has a little bit of everything. Not only that, but it’s not too pricey and is basically a city landmark.

Catch A Concert

Thankfully, the city’s biggest music venues are all near one another. Xfinity Mobile Arena is in the same sports complex as Lincoln Financial Field and is hosting two concerts this weekend.

Charli XCX performs on Friday, September 11, with tickets starting around $120, and Rod Wave performs on Saturday, September 12, with tickets starting around $150.

Rod Wave’s concert starts at 8 p.m., so plenty of time to make it to the Nittany Lions noon game and the concert.

Make It A Sports Weekend

If you’re feeling in the sporty mood and want that energy all weekend, there are plenty of other events going on.

On Friday, you can catch the Penn State women’s volleyball game against Stanford at the Palestra. Then on Saturday, make it to the Penn State football game against Temple. To round out the weekend, get to the Eagles’ home opener versus the Washington Commanders at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.

Visit With Nature

It may sound counterintuitive, but if you’re looking for a cheaper way to spend the weekend in Philadelphia, plenty of places offer a fun and calm experience.

To round out summer, stop by Penn’s Landing and take in the waterfront attractions. With plenty of grab-and-go dining spots and activities to do, Penn’s Landing is a great spot to go when you’re not sure what to do with some downtime.

If you want something a little more artsy, visit Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens; the entrance ticket is $15, but it’s worth it. The Gardens are a massive gallery space on South Street that is a mosaic art piece. It’s not only amazing to experience, but it’s also a great photo-op!

Check Out The Nightlife

This one is for the 21-and-over crowd. Philadelphia is home to plenty of interesting bars and clubs.

For those arriving the night before the game, make sure to stop by Kung Fu Necktie for Emo Night Philly on Friday.

Maybe Emo Night isn’t your thing; that’s okay because you could stop by Fabrika for their Burlesque Inferno show, the 2 Chainz-inspired night on Friday, or their Drag brunch on Sunday morning.

If you’re looking for a spot that’s cheap, hit up McGillin’s Olde Ale House in Center City for a pub vibe or City Tap House for a lively outdoor patio space.

Visit Surrounding Neighborhoods

Philadelphia is much bigger than people realize; make the most of it. The city has so many different neighborhoods, each with its own charm.

If you’re looking for a small town mixed into a city, visit Manayunk and make the most of its eateries, bars, and boutiques on Main Street.

For a nightlife scene, hit up Fishtown. Fabrika and the Fillmore are here, making it a great spot for local acts in both music and visual arts.
