When is Penn State going to get with the program and create a drone show?

I have been jealous for weeks of the schools that are putting on these amazing, luminous shows. Unfortunately, it is mostly in the SEC, but Nebraska and Wisconsin are some of the Big Ten schools that have had a show so far.

Let that sink in: Lincoln, Nebraska, is currently outdoing Happy Valley.

If you do not know what I’m talking about, here is an example:

I personally think we need to step up the game. How cool was that show? Hundreds of tiny lights moving in perfect sync, forming logos and mascots hundreds of feet above the stadium while 100,000 people lose their minds.

That should be us.

No fan base in the country is better at coordinated visual chaos than ours. We turn more than 106,000 people into a single sea of white on command. We have the most perfect two words that every drone on earth could spell out in the night sky (We Are).

Let me paint you a picture. It’s the White Out against USC. The lights dim, and the Nittany Lion illuminates the sky as Kernkraft 400’s “Zombie Nation” starts playing.

What could be better?

Other programs have already done the hard part of figuring this out. At Nebraska, the drones that showed the attendance number hovering over Memorial Stadium were produced by a Nebraska-based drone company, and that company’s standard rate runs from $300 to $350 per drone, depending on fleet size and show length, according to the Nebraska Alumni Association.

The FAA puts a temporary flight restriction over every football game at stadiums seating 30,000 or more, and getting official airspace authorization can take up to three weeks. But if Nebraska can do it, so can we.

Drone shows are quickly becoming a staple of college football, and every week I wait for it to come here. Penn State has the fan base and the stadium; now it needs the drones.

Well, maybe we could start with more night games at Beaver Stadium…
