Penn State football fell out of the top 25 in the Week 4 AP Poll, the Associated Press announced Sunday.

The Nittany Lions sit just outside the rankings after falling from No. 13 following Week 3.

The Nittany Lions choked a 17-0 first-half lead en route to a 24-20 loss to Wisconsin on Saturday in Penn State’s Big Ten opener.

Penn State fell on its face offensively, mustering only 248 yards total. Badger quarterback Colton Joseph tabbed 235 passing yards alone.

Rocco Becht played one of the worst games of his college career, going 12-for-29 for 129 yards and one interception. The Nittany Lions’ leading rusher was James Peoples, who still only registered 67 yards on 14 carries.

The Penn State defense picked off Joseph three times, including a Josiah Zayas pick-six in the second quarter, but it wasn’t enough to power it to the win. Tony Rojas snatched Penn State’s final takeaway with around eight minutes remaining in the contest, seemingly securing the win with the Nittany Lions up 20-10.

The offense faltered and Wisconsin drove down the field two separate times, capped off by a 72-yard go-ahead touchdown pass from Joseph to Jacob Harris, to pull out the comeback win.

Around the Big Ten, Indiana survived against Northwestern on Friday night to remain firmly in the top-10. Now-No. 5 Ohio State dismantled Illinois in Columbus.

The biggest conference slide came from now-No. 18 USC, who fell to now-No. 15 Oregon despite knocking out Ducks quarterback Dante Moore early in the second quarter. Michigan fell from the rankings as well, after losing on a last-second touchdown to now-No. 14 Iowa.

Penn State is set to face off against the Trojans and Wolverines after its Week 5 bout against Northwestern.

The Nittany Lions will face the Wildcats at 8 p.m. on Friday, October 2, in the debut of the new Ryan Field. Folks can watch the game on FOX.
