Your Official Penn State-Northwestern Drinking Game

Well, folks, it’s time to move on.

After a Homecoming weekend that ended with Penn State blowing a 17-point lead and falling to Wisconsin, the Nittany Lions head to Evanston, Illinois, to face Northwestern on Friday night.

The game will mark the first-ever at New Ryan Field, which feels like a totally normal, stress-free environment for a team trying to bounce back.

Very cool. Very normal. Definitely nothing weird will happen. Grab your drink, find a couch, and prepare yourself for anything.

Heck, even grab a few drinks while you’re at it. If you need some help getting them down, here’s your official Penn State-Northwestern drinking game.

  • If the broadcast mentions Penn State’s loss to Wisconsin, take a shot. We’re sure that won’t happen.
    • If they show the 17-0 score, take another. We get it.
  • If someone mentions it’s the first game at New Ryan Field, take a sip!
  • If the broadcast shows the highlight of last week’s game-winning touchdown for Wisconsin, look away and drink.
  • If last year’s Northwestern game comes up, take a shot.
  • If Drew Allar’s injury gets mentioned, take a sip.
  • If James Franklin’s firing gets mentioned. Stare into the distance for a second, and take another shot.
  • If Rocco Becht throws a deep ball, take a drink of water.
  • If the camera cuts to a nervous Penn State fan, that’s relatable; take a sip for them.
  • If Penn State forces a turnover, cheers!
  • If FOX reminds you that this game is happening on a Friday night, take a sip. At least we get all Saturday to relax.
  • If someone says, “There’s no way they blow this,” Make them finish their drink.
  • If you still love the Nittany Lion defense, take a shot.
  • If Penn State has a double-digit lead, do nothing except take a sip of water. We have earned nothing.
  • If the defense is carrying us, take a sip. We love you, Tony Rojas.
  • If Zay Robinson breaks somebody’s ankles, that deserves a shot.
  • If someone says this is a new era for Northwestern football, sip.
  • If Penn State wins by one score after making everyone miserable for three hours, finish your drink and pretend you never doubted the win.
  • If the broadcast shows a Chicago skyline shot, drink some water and appreciate the beauty.
  • If Penn State loses, turn off the TV. Stay off social media. Finish your drink and go to bed.

As always, drink responsibly, drink water, have fun, and don’t make Saturday morning harder than it already is.

Cheers.
