Pitt Football Head Coach Pat Narduzzi Calls Out Penn State For Preseason Ranking

Stay in your lane, little brother.

Pitt football head coach Pat Narduzzi called out Penn State at his most recent press conference for using its “brand” to get favorable AP poll rankings.

“Everybody wants to look at the logo and gets all infatuated with logos and all that stuff,” Narduzzi said. “You look at the school down the road — gets in the top 25 and what did they really do to get in the top 25?”

While Narduzzi doesn’t explicitly name Penn State, we can all assume which school he meant.

The long-tenured Panther head coach has been on a season-long rant against AP voters after Pitt failed to crack the top 25 until Week 5, despite a 4-0 start.

The win that finally pushed Pitt into the national limelight came against none other than Virginia Tech and former Penn State head coach James Franklin. The Panthers battled through starting quarterback Mason Heintschel’s injury to win 35-33 after the Hokies missed a last-second field goal.

Pitt now sits at No. 25 in the AP poll.

For some reason, however, instead of congratulating his team on the ranking or worrying that the team’s starting quarterback is out for the season with a torn ACL, Narduzzi decided to take shots at the Nittany Lions.

In fact, he’s been thinking about “the school down the road” an awful lot this season.

Narduzzi’s only viral moment from the ACC Media Days was when he talked about reigniting the Penn State-Pitt rivalry, something he has claimed he tried to do multiple times during Franklin’s tenure.

“We’re open,” Narduzzi said in July. “If they want to schedule that 13th game, we’ll play them right now.”

The only thing open about Pitt is the seats at Acrisure Stadium on Saturdays. In 2025, the ACC side averaged 51,845 fans per game — an extremely generous number — despite holding a capacity of over 68,000.

It’s one thing to fling insults and petty threats toward Penn State; it’s another to actually schedule a future game and settle the feud on the field.

The last time the two sides played, Penn State pulled out a 17-10 win despite Kenny Pickett throwing for 372 yards. The Nittany Lions also won the two meetings before that.

In fact, Penn State has dominated the in-state series since the 1990s with an 8-2 record in the last 10 meetings.

Until the two teams meet again, keep your focus on Pitt, Narduzzi.
