Happy Valley Casino reported its lowest monthly gaming revenue since opening in April, generating approximately $2.04 million in September, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

The casino, located at the Nittany Mall, recorded the lowest monthly revenue among Pennsylvania’s 18 casinos, despite three Penn State home football games bringing visitors to the State College area.

According to the board’s September report, Happy Valley Casino generated $2,042,124 in gaming revenue, including $1,618,690 from slot machines and $423,434 from table games.

The total represents a decline from August, when the casino generated $2,256,552. September also marked a significant decrease from May, its first full month of operation, when revenue reached $3,613,600.

While slot machine revenue declined from August, table games revenue rose slightly from $405,835 to $423,434.

Happy Valley Casino also trailed Pennsylvania’s other four Category 4 casinos, commonly known as mini-casinos.

Parx Casino Shippensburg reported approximately $3.54 million in total gaming revenue in September, while Hollywood Casino York generated approximately $10.59 million.

The casino’s decline came as Pennsylvania’s overall gaming industry reported growth.

According to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, statewide gaming revenue reached approximately $555 million this September, a 4.07% increase compared to about $533 million last September.

These terminals operate separately from casinos and are included as a different category in the state’s gaming reports.

Locally, the TravelCenters of America location in Milesburg generated $5,436 in gross video gaming terminal revenue in September, compared to $4,904 in August, according to the report.

Happy Valley Casino opened April 27 in the former Macy’s location at the Nittany Mall, following a redevelopment project estimated at $120 million.

Although September’s numbers represent another monthly decline, the revenue reports do not provide information about the casino’s overall profitability or operating expenses.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board releases monthly gaming revenue reports tracking casinos and other gaming operations throughout the state.
