No. 7 Penn State Women’s Hockey Demolishes RIT 6-0

No. 7 Penn State women’s hockey (9-3, 7-1 AHA) demolished RIT (2-10, 2-2 AHA) 6-0 at the Gene Polisseni Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions got on the board 2:41 into the first period and didn’t look back. Abby Stonehouse scored two third-period goals to cap off Penn State’s biggest victory of the season so far.

How It Happened

Kylie Amelkovich won the opening faceoff for Penn State, which led to an opening shot from Mikah Keller that sailed wide of the net in the first minute.

The Nittany Lions got a flurry of shots off before Keller opened the scoring with a goal assisted by McKenna Walsh and Kayla McCarthy just 2:41 into the contest.

RIT generated some pressure of its own following the goal, but Grace Tullock took care of the shots. Abby Stonehouse then took advantage of the power play to double Penn State’s lead not even six minutes after Keller’s goal.

RIT went on the power play and rattled off a flurry of shots toward Madison Campbell, but she rejected each attempt swiftly. Grace Outwater tested her luck at net, to no avail.

Amelkovich and Danica Maynard fired off two more attempts before the end of the first period, but neither of them fell in. Penn State held a commanding 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

Penn State opened the second frame with nine consecutive shots, but failed to pierce the veil for its third goal. It continously pounded the pressure for almost 15 minutes before Maynard finally put one in on the power play,

RIT made a run of momentum to round out the second period, but Penn State kept it at bay heading into the second intermission.

Outwater put the exclamation point just 38 seconds into the final frame with a goal assisted by Keller and Sophie Morrow. Stonehouse scored just 43 seconds later to put Penn State up 5-0 and guarantee the win.

The Nittany Lions pounced on the attack once more, firing off nine shots in a row to find the elusive sixth goal on the day.

That sixth goal came off the stick of Stonehouse again with just over four minutes remaining in the contest. She and the Nittany Lions skated around to drain the clock and secure the win.

Takeaways

  • It was a completely dominant showing from Penn State. The 6-0 final score made it the largest margin of victory for the Nittany Lions in 2026-27 so far.
  • Penn State outshot RIT by more than double, ending the day with 65 shots to RIT’s 31.
