Gameday Observations: Purdue

Penn State football has won, folks. I repeat, Penn State football has won.
The Nittany Lions beat Purdue 31-17 in a game that will be remembered equally as Matt Campbell’s first Big Ten win and Cam Wallace’s breakout game.
As always, our staff was on site to take in the sights and sounds of Beaver Stadium. Here’s what we noticed.
Cam Wallace
Well, he was mentioned before, but Wallace was a breath of fresh air for Nittany Lions fans who have watched a struggling run game all year.
While blocking still looked questionable, Wallace did more with what he was given than Carson Hanson and James Peoples have this season. He ended with 22 carries for 135 yards and a touchdown.
“To not be the guy playing, and then to come out and demand to play and make us play him … He’s going to play,” Campbell said postgame. “This guy’s earned the right to get on the field.”
The Purdue run defense has been awful all season, but it is still a positive sign for Penn State’s postseason hopes.
Thank You, Fans
Much has been said about the lack of student attendance as Penn State continues to work on a renovation in Beaver Stadium. Instead of complaining about those who did not show up for the Nittany Lions, let’s thank those who did.
By the end of the game, about 3,000 students stayed to sing the alma mater. Despite the low numbers, the Nittany Lion faithful were loud and still had an effect on the game.
Thank you if you were one of those students.
Stay Classy Purdue
For a team used to losing, Purdue did not lose with grace Saturday night.
Players yelled obscenities and spat on Penn State fans near the Boilermakers’ bench and tunnel on the way out. Losing is always hard, but come on. You do it every week.
Happy Halloween
While there were fewer than I thought, there were still a ton of Halloween costumes around the stadium.
While I am a huge fan of the blue or white themes at the Penn State games, it was interesting to switch it up for a holiday. Nothing like screaming your head off and looking over to see Spider-Man doing the same.
Penn State Did Not Play Marshall
In a perfect display of Penn State football’s current state, the stadium’s big board showed the Marshall logo where Purdue should have been.
