Tim Frazier, Alex Bentley Nominated for National Student-Athlete Award

Two Penn State basketball players, Tim Frazier (men's) and Alex Bentley (women's), were named as candidates for the 2012-2013 Senior CLASS Award, which honors NCAA Division-I athletes that have stayed in school for their senior year and have exhibited excellence in the following areas: community, classroom, character, and competition.

Hurricane Sandy to Hit University Park

Hurricane Sandy, or the #Frankenstorm, is expected to hit State College beginning Monday night into Tuesday morning. According to State College-based Accuweather, weather conditions in State College and Central Pennsylvania deteriorate throughout Monday and will worsen sometime between Monday night and Tuesday. Effects of Sandy will continue through Wednesday.

Women’s Volleyball Still Dominant, Sweeps Iowa

After grinding out a tough 3-2 win over the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday, the Women’s Volleyball Team (21-1, 11-0 Big Ten) traveled to Iowa City and rebounded with a sweep of the Iowa Hawkeyes last night, 25-15, 25-19, and 25-15. And yes, the team has been so dominant that it can in fact bounce back from a win, since close games are so far outside of the norm for this team.

This probably isn’t news to you, since you’ve likely read this oft-cited Wall Street Journal article ranking Penn State as the top destination for corporate recruiters, and it’s no secret that the university is contracted for research by many companies. Accordingly, executives from General Electric (GE), Siemens Corporation, and Volvo will be visiting Penn State over the next two weeks to highlight and discuss their respective relationships with the university.
