Distraction of the Day: “It’s Thanksgiving”

Thanksgiving is pretty much the best holiday of the year. You get off school, have time to hang out with your friends and family, and can nurture your very own food baby with no passing judgment from others. That’s why it is such a tragedy Thanksgiving is overshadowed by Christmas practically every single year. Its never even had its own celebratory holiday song -- until now. But when I wished for a Thanksgiving theme song, this wasn’t what I had in mind.

Denny’s Presents Hobbit-Themed Menu

I know what you’re thinking -- FINALLY. When I first heard Denny’s had come out with a Hobbit themed menu I went through several emotions all at once: shock, disbelief, disgust, and then something I can only describe as morbid curiosity. I’m a huge fan of Tolkein’s work so I figured I should at least look at the menu to see if it was worth checking out. At first glance the array of options, complete with pumpkin pancakes no less, was quite impressive. So, I put my game face on and gathered up my very own traveling companions: Katie Blitz, Meghin Moore, and Laurel Petrulionis. Below is the recap of our very own “Unexpected Journey” (lol Hobbit puns).

Trader Joe’s Opens in State College

After months of anticipation, and almost an exact year after their original opening date, Trader Joe’s finally opened in State College. This small specialty store is located in the aptly named “Trader Joe’s Plaza” right off of North Atherton street, their only competition so far being a Pier 1 next door.

Most of the time townies look like regular people, however, this is due to years of vigorous training in hopes of blending in with the rest of the student population. If you know or (God forbid) are a townie, you probably already know that there are certain things outsiders just don't get. Here are a few attributes that makes us townies different from the majority of Penn State students.

Food to Make in Your Dorm: Grilled Cheese

Step right up, don’t be shy! Are you ready to witness something so amazing, so spectacular, you won’t believe it with your own two eyes?! What if I told you that you could make the most popular sandwich in America today in your very own dorm RIGHT NOW? You can, and all you need is an iron.

Bubble Tea Shop Tea-Time Opens Downtown

I love bubble tea. I think it has something to do with my inner child delighting in devouring food that grosses other people out. Or maybe I just like drinking neon colored liquid that looks like it shouldn’t be ingested by anything—especially a person. Bubble tea just seems to be one of those things you either love with a passion or hate with the fiery vengeance of a thousand suns. Personally, I am a huge fan of bubble tea and it’s delightful chunkiness, so you can imagine I the joy I felt when I heard that State College was getting it’s very own bubble tea shop: Tea-Time.
