It is now exactly one year to the day that Jerry Sandusky was arrested and charged with 40 counts of child sexual abuse. The arrest kicked off the one year that we at Penn State would like to forget most of all. The scandal devastated us, as the school and its symbols we thought we knew seemed to unravel. But I think I've learned more in the past year than perhaps any other.
The storm was no match for Harvard Sailing Team, whose show will go on as scheduled at Alumni Hall in the HUB tonight at 10 p.m. The sketch comedy group is not actually from Harvard, nor does it sail, but they have put out some pretty hilarious stuff in the past, and when was the last time you went to a sketch comedy show, anyway?
The Senior Class Gift Committee for the Class of 2013 has announced that this year's gift, as voted on by current Penn State seniors, will be the "We Are" sculpture. The sculpture will feature the words "We Are" and have the words of the Alma Mater carved on them, in Fred Lewis Pattee's original handwriting.
Most of you probably haven't heard the name of J.M. Coetzee. Regardless, it's still a big deal, since Coetzee, an acclaimed South African-born author, will be on hand at Penn State on Thursday evening to be honored with a medal by the Institute of Arts and Humanities, as well as to give a reading from some of his works. The ceremony begins at 7 p.m. in the State Theatre.
If you've ever been to Pickle's on a Tuesday, you know that there's no shortage of country music fans at Penn State. So a lot of you are going to be a lot happier: according to Country Music Television, Luke Bryan has a new tour in the works that includes a stop in State College on February 8, 2013.
