The time has finally come. Kickoff from the Beav comes in two short days. The sports writers here at Onward State have scoured over statistics and depth charts, and finally let JayPa out of our torture chamber, now that we know who our starting quarterback is. We have now come up with the most comprehensive football preview you'll see. OK it's one paragraph apiece, but we're a blog, so deal with it.
For the first time since 1992, Penn State will send a true freshman behind center to take the first snap of the season as it was announced Robert Bolden will start Saturday against Youngstown State.
Earlier this year, there was talk of Penn State President Graham Spanier taking over the post of NCAA President after the death of Miles Brand. G-Span did not want the job, however, and Mark Emmert was eventually elected to the position.
But in his quest to keep all college citizens safe, it was announced on Tuesday that Spanier has been selected to head the Bowl Championship Series Presidential Oversight Committee.
Alabama running back Mark Ingram, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Tuesday and has been ruled out for their season opener this Saturday against San Jose State and could very well be out of the lineup when the Nittany Lions play Alabama on September 11 as well.
Pre-season practices officially concluded on Friday and with that, Joe Paterno and his coaching staff should be pretty much done evaluating players and getting ready to focus on Youngstown State, the first opponent of the 2010 season.
