Penn State's men's and women's track teams took part in the Penn Relays this past weekend. This year marked the 116th year of the event and it broke the attendance record with a crowd of over 54,000 cheering on runners of all ages. Runners ranged in experience from high schoolers running at the historic Franklin Field for the first time to the World's Fastest Man, Usain Bolt, who dominated the short distance events in the Olympic bracket.

Former NFL coach Dick Vermeil spoke to a mid-sized audience at Eisenhower Auditorium on Tuesday night, giving those in attendance some insight he developed in his 31 years of coaching all levels of football. Before starting his talk, he told the crowd that he felt bad being retired after sitting down and talking with Joe Paterno earlier in the afternoon, and seeing the fire and passion he still has for coaching.

Being a Penn State student means that hating cancer is a must, and this weekend, there is another event to show cancer our immense dislike for it! The 11th annual Coaches Vs. Cancer 5K Run/Walk is slated for this Saturday, April 17th at 11:00 AM beginning at the IM Building.
The charity is trying to beat their $11,000 fundraising total from last year. Here are some ways you can help:
1. Sign up for the race here.
2. Go to the HUB on Thursday and look for their table to donate or sign up for the race directly. You can also send your donation in check form to the Student Bookstore in lieu of racing.
3. Eat!! CVC is also holding a spaghetti dinner at the Grace Lutheran Church on the corner of Garner and Beaver on Friday night from 5-8pm. Participants in the race eat free and non-participants only pay $5 for all-you-can-eat pasta.
However you do it, get out there and help this awesome charity. Once again, let cancer Happy Valley is doing all it can to fight it!
UPDATE 2:18 PM: A little late on the bell, but results are here! Phil Davis won by submission at 4:55 in the first round last night. This is a very impressive victory, and it has been speculated that the win will put him in a main card fight for his next Pay Per View appearance.
Phil Davis, former Penn State wrestler and 2008 National Champion, is participating in what many people believe will be his breakout match in the Octagon tomorrow night at Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 112.
He has certainly earned his new nickname of "Mr. Wonderful," compiling a perfect 5-0 record, including a 41-second knockout in his first professional fight and an impressive unanimous decision victory over the World Extreme Cagefighting light-heavyweight champion. Insiders say he will be the next big thing in UFC and will make a huge statement this weekend when he takes on Alexander "The Mauler" Gustafsson.
Penn State Director of Athletics Tim Curley once again reinforced his belief that Penn State basketball is heading in the right direction in an interview published in the Centre Daily Times on Sunday. He said that the Lions are very, very close to reaching realistic goals of being in the upper echelon of the Big Ten conference and consistently being in the NCAA tournament (after 9 long years of missing the Big Dance, mind you). As a basketball fan, it is hard to watch Butler be able to make it all the way to the national championship game while we cannot even be a speck on the selection committee's radar year after year.
