The Council of Commonwealth Student Governments is close to finalizing the dates of its 2011-12 Council Weekends. As usual, there will be six in total; however, for the first time ever, meetings will take place at a Penn State campus other than University Park. The caucuses based out of Penn State Altoona and Penn State Hazelton will host the December and January council weekends, respectively.
The William L. Welch Community Swimming Pool, located on Westerly Parkway near State College High School, was reopened this weekend with a First Splash ceremony that saw Mayor Gorehamn in attendance -- and participating -- as well as scores of kids and parents excited to try out what is the coolest water facility I've seen in a long time.
On September 23, 2009 (just 2 days after Dado's death), the CCSG voted on a resolution that asked Penn State to provide medical amnesty for underage students who obtain help for someone suffering from a life-threatening, alcohol-related illness through emergency services and for the ill students themselves. It looks like the state will now act before the university does though.
Earlier today, Penn State Athletics announced that this year's Homecoming game will be played against the Purdue Boilermakers at 12:00 noon on October 15. Check out some other information about Homecoming Weekend after the jump.
The end of this semester marked the last time that Penn State students will be able to enjoy a "senior week" between the end of finals and commencement.
