I wish I was writing this to inform everyone that Big Ten divisions are no longer being referred to as "Legends" and "Leaders". Sadly the purpose instead centers around yesterday's news that the Stagg-Paterno Championship Trophy which will be awarded to the winner of the Big Ten each year is now officially just the Stagg Championship Trophy. The trophy has already undergone a name change before it has ever been awarded.
Imagine trying to sell a product to consumers while just about everybody else in the world is bashing it. This was not supposed to be a real scenario; it was not part of the description when you volunteered for the job. Keep in mind that this is not some new innovative product without a track record, quite the contrary actually, as it has existed for over one hundred fifty years. It has been amazingly good to you. Currently, a few people associated with the product have tried to bring it down.
It's easy for me right now. Everyone's on my site when I haven't lost a game yet." That quote was said to me by a joking Pat Chambers after an October 22nd practice, the season opener still three weeks away at the time. After one game, the phrase rings true as Penn State (1-0) defeated Hartford (0-2) 70-55 Saturday afternoon at the Bryce Jordan Center.
The Nittany Lions are back in action tonight at home against the Radford Highlanders from the Big South conference who enter the contest with a 2-0 record. Freshmen will receive free admission, and hot dogs will only cost one dollar. If that is not enough motivation to come to the BJC, the Nittany Lions currently have a better record than perennial Big Ten power Michigan State. Sure, maybe the Spartans opened against top ranked North Carolina, but does a little detail like that really matter?
The men's basketball team will begin its season against the Hartford Hawks at 4:30 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center and will offer free admission for all fans. Continuing with the free theme, there will be no-cost shuttle buses running before and after the game, and 116 prizes will be distributed to honor the 116th season of Penn State basketball.
Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett held a brief press conference in front of reporters at the Penn Stater Conference Center. The presser was filled with a lot of "no comment"s lumped between a few bold statements--not surprising given that Corbett opened this investigation while serving as Pennsylvania's Attorney General.
Tom Bradley has been a part of the Penn State Football program for thirty six years. At most universities, that is unheard of, but at Penn State, it pales in comparison to someone who has been around for sixty one years. Bradley has never particularly sought the spotlight, but today, the spotlight will seek him as he appears publicly for the first time, no longer having the title of defensive coordinator but rather interim head coach.
