While most of the hype surrounding Penn State football this time of year comes from season previews mixed in with the occasional James Franklin siren, former offensive tackle Adam Gress has some important news of his own. According to his agent, Gress has signed a contract with the New York Giants, giving his NFL dream a chance.
The Nittany Lions picked up a huge commitment from five-star defensive end Shane Simmons from DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville, Maryland. Simmons, ranked as the second best defensive end in the class of 2016 and the 27th best overall player, held offers from Ohio State, Alabama, Notre Dame, defending National Champion Florida State and more than a dozen other schools.
The Philadelphia Union and the Mack Brady Soccer Fund--started last January by Honors College Dean Christian Brady after the death of his eight year old son Mack-- will team up on August 8th to host a charity dinner to benefit the fund. PPL Park, the Union's stadium, will host the event, which will include appearances from six Penn State head coaches, as well as Union goalie Zac MacMath and other members of the Union. The dinner also features a silent auction, with signed memorabilia from all of Penn State's sports teams as well as some autographed memorabilia from Philadelphia sports teams.
The Lady Lions basketball team announced today that their Pink Zone raised $310,000 to donate to the fight against breast cancer. The money raised will go to six different foundations, including Mount Nittany Medical Center and Penn State's own Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute.
