Elliott Killian: Student by Day, Politician by Night

Balancing classes and a social life can be difficult for most students. For Elliott Killian, that's nothing. See, back in the fall of 2011, Elliott was elected Ferguson Township Supervisor for the 3rd Ward of the township at only 19.

The difficult part for Elliott wasn't getting elected. His father was his predecessor who's term limit was up and he ran unopposed. Now it was perfectly legal for him to be elected at such a young age, but the real problem lied in the township's home rule charter which made it illegal for someone to take office unless they were 21.

Why Do Most of the HUB Restaurants Close at 4?

Have you ever wandered to the HUB late in the afternoon, only to Chick-fil-A, Burger King, and other restaurants closed? It turns out, there is a method to this madness after all.

Eli Sidler, The Chemowarrior

If you attended Family Hour at THON 2014, you probably remember the Eli Sidler Family. When Eli was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in September of 2004, his father Bret gave him the nickname "Chemowarrior". The nickname was meant to act as a badge of honor for all that he was going through and the moniker has really taken on a story of its own in the years since.

Why Are Bars Closing Saturday?

We all know by now that 34 of State College's bars, restaurants, and bottle shops will not be serving or selling alcohol come Saturday. Unlike last year, there was still the prospect of some staying open up until Penn State's announcement Wednesday. With payment dependent on the capacity of the business, some larger establishments were given more incentive to close this year, with some receiving $2,500 more than they received last year. So the question becomes, "was the money the reason they closed?"

DOTD: Backstreet Boys at the BJC in 2000

If you were at THON this weekend, you definitely noticed "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" by the Backstreet Boys starting off the line dance. Well, way before most undergrads were even teenagers, the Backstreet Boys performed at the BJC as a part of their "Into the Millennium Tour" two nights in a row, on February 11 and 12, 2000. The concerts were filmed and lucky for us, someone put them on YouTube.

Silly Questions Asked at THON

THON Committees can be a great resource for those that need help navigating the BJC during THON weekend. Found throughout the BJC during THON, committee members take time to provide guests with correct information, which can often be a difficult task.
