During election season, many policy initiatives and promises are more often than not left unfulfilled, leaving broken hearts strewn across the floor like a poorly managed transplant center. One of the first for this season is from the Adewumi camp with their 10.i.10 tuition plan proposal, which hopes to lower tuition to $10,000 in the next 10 years.

The reasoning behind the vetoing of this year's spring festival's name "Last Call" is apparently due to its alcohol implications. And this year, with more and more days being made "holidays" for the purpose of drinking, the name simply can't stand. A warning has even been made to the UPUA, stating that the festival's date, which is currently set for the last day of classes, will be rescinded by the university if the name is not changed, according to a recent UPUA letter from the program's director, Mike Wallace.
Thus it was deemed necessary to veto the program's name and subsequently adopt 5 alternative names in which the student body would be eligible to vote on. This hopefully would grant more oversight into the program by the student body, while also creating as much excitement and publicity for the event as possible. Certainly, the name "Last Call" is a little ambiguous, but enough to warrant a warning to the UPUA? Not really. It's the university's increased sensitivity to any event that may involve alcohol. Special thanks to such reckless ideas as Cinco De State, as well as State Patty's recent fiasco, and Penn State's overly alcoholic nature in general, for the stick up the administrators' asses.
After the jump - more guessing as to who the headliner could be!
The recent state problems with funding have led to an increasing number of people who are alarmed at where the university's future is going, including Penn State. But if there's one thing that has come out of it, ironically, is that some students are getting more experience than they would if the state did know how to properly manage its funds.
If there's only one thing that college students hate besides a shoddy Wi-Fi connection, it's messing with their money. We don't have much, and what we do have must go towards books and bar tabs. But when it happens, we tend to act, sometimes by rallying, sometimes by holding our buildings hostage. The following is the former.

This year's spring festival's former name, "Last Call," was vetoed, according to UPUA President Gavin Keirans via his Twitter page. Keirans also said that the new name would chosen via a student body vote. To vote for the best name, go to the UPUA's website or the poll on The LION's site.
The voting deadline is next Tuesday, so hurry up!
Penn State alumni Michael Pipe has announced that he is the presumptive Democratic nominee for the State of Pennsylvania's 5th Congressional District.
Check out Pipe's website or visit his Facebook page and 'become a fan' of him. Or post embarrassing pictures of yourself from spring break on his wall. The biography on his website, states that Pipe currently works in State College with his wife, Ashley. It also sounded kind of like it was written by his mother.
Pipe is a Democrat, running in a district that has traditionally been more right-wing. The district includes towns such as DuBois, Lock Haven, State College, and Bellefonte, all of which stood out because of the courts and colleges. And it is also the largest of all the Pa. Representative districts.
Currently, "GT," or U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson reigns over the 5th district and he will certainly be looking to retain his title. He has already started making people in the district aware of and annoyed by his presence. You can check out his reelection literature on his Friends of GT website or follow him on Twitter.
Registration for candidates for this year's UPUA elections has been closed and those that have been selected to do battle have been named.
For the 2010 UPUA President/Vice President nomination, weighing in at I-don't-know-how-many pounds, it's Christian Ragland and Colleen Smith, who will be facing David Adewumi and Devin Weakland.
The two tickets will campaign and debate over the next two weeks until March 31, Election Day. Both tickets have already begun their campaigning. You can check out the Ragland-Smith literature on their website, Twitter, or Facebook and you can do the same for the Adewumi-Weakland ticket on their website, Twitter, or Facebook.
