Med Students Get Residency Placements

This afternoon, 147 Penn State medical school students experienced a few moments of extreme joy as they found out where they would be spending the next three to four years in relative misery residency programs. Watch their reactions below!

Movin’ On Opener Leaked

I was browsing some MySpace sites (call me old school) looking for some good tunes, when I came across The Dangerous Summer. In their tour list, Movin' On is definitely listed.

They aren't headliner material, so they will be apparently opening for the festival.

Found other hints of openers or *gasp* the headliner? Post them in the comments.

The STATEtorialist: ROY G. BIV Your Wardrobe

The STATEtorialist is a blog about Penn State, college sports, and fashion. Every week, Ben from The STATEtorialist will be writing a column for Onward State. If you like what you read, be sure to comment and read more at The STATEtorialist!

It's apparent that spring has sprung in Happy Valley, which means when walking the streets, you'll probably notice a little more variety in what people are wearing. I think females have a 6th sense when it comes to when the weather has definitely made a turn for the better, because the day where you see 90% of the girls around town in skirts or shorts is the day where you know its okay to hang up your North Face.

Tuesday was the first significantly nice day in State College, and it's only looking better. Spring brings out a lot of potential wardrobe choices, but make sure you're not just wearing shorts and a t-shirt, or no jacket. Show that you knowit's spring by rocking a variety of colors.

My suggestions after the jump.

IFC/PHC Endorses Ragland/Smith for UPUA

On Tuesday night before President's Council, the Presidents/Delegates of the Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Council chapters voted to endorse Christian Ragland and Colleen Smith for the upcoming Presidential and Vice Presidential positions on the UPUA board. The fact that Ragland and Smith have been working together for quite some time really showed that they already have established themselves as a great team.

Ragland-Smith's discussion about how they looked to better Greek Life really hit home with everyone in the room. Such topics included working on taking the focus off of just Greeks when it came to issues with drinking at Penn State.

Drinking Holidays Derail “Last Call” Name

The reasoning behind the vetoing of this year's spring festival's name "Last Call" is apparently due to its alcohol implications. And this year, with more and more days being made "holidays" for the purpose of drinking, the name simply can't stand. A warning has even been made to the UPUA, stating that the festival's date, which is currently set for the last day of classes, will be rescinded by the university if the name is not changed, according to a recent UPUA letter from the program's director, Mike Wallace.

Thus it was deemed necessary to veto the program's name and subsequently adopt 5 alternative names in which the student body would be eligible to vote on. This hopefully would grant more oversight into the program by the student body, while also creating as much excitement and publicity for the event as possible. Certainly, the name "Last Call" is a little ambiguous, but enough to warrant a warning to the UPUA? Not really. It's the university's increased sensitivity to any event that may involve alcohol. Special thanks to such reckless ideas as Cinco De State, as well as State Patty's recent fiasco, and Penn State's overly alcoholic nature in general, for the stick up the administrators' asses.

After the jump - more guessing as to who the headliner could be!

Gabriel Iglesias – One Big April Fool

Gabriel Iglesias will be kicking off SPA's April Fools Comedy Month when he performs on April 1 at Eisenhower Auditorium. "Fluffy" has been entertaining audiences with his stand-up and voice impressions for years and has gained popularity through appearances on NBC's Last Comic Standing, as well as Comedy Central (he also was the voice of Mexican #5 on an episode of Family Guy).

Tickets are free with a student ID and go on sale March 22 at the HUB Information Desk, Eisenhower Auditorium, Bryce Jordan Ticket Center, and Penn State Tickets Downtown. Haven't heard of Iglesias? Check out this clip from his "Hot & Fluffy" special after the jump.
