If Penn State had hired an even-keeled men's head basketball coach after Ed DeChellis's departure last May, Penn State might have done away with their pre-season basketball pep rally, as many schools across the country have in recent years. However, Pat Chambers has just a little too much energy for all that, so in conjunction with the Penn State women's team, the programs will hold "Hoops Madness" on November 2 at Rec Hall.

Appreciators of jazz will be able to catch sax-man David Sanborn at the State Theatre tomorrow night.

The 2011 Homecoming weekend at Penn State consisted of great weather, great floats, and a great (if frustrating) football game. Check out what I took away from this weekend's game after the jump.

The Machine, a Pink Floyd cover band, surprised audience members with incredibly accurate renditions of the prog rock band’s music. Not only did the band play famous hits like “Breathe” and “Time,” but they also chose obscure, less popular songs to put on their setlist such as “Interstellar Overdrive” and “Mother.”

Sides had been taken. The battle lines had been drawn. And Sunday afternoon's meeting of the UPUA's Steering Committee was shaping up to be one that defined the future of the organization. Rewind, if you will, to last Wednesday, when the UPUA passed legislation authorizing the purchase of promotional items, including sunglasses, cups, and pens, to the tune of $3,000 from its budget taken from the Student Activity Fee. During debate on the proposal, it received significant criticism from within, passing by a relatively slim 25-15 margin. It wasn't until the morning after that most UPUA members realized what they were getting themselves into. Academic Affairs Chair John Zang realized the negative implications immediately, but was on the short side of the voting Wednesday. And starting Thursday, he heard all about it.

In a crazy game that featured three turnovers, several huge special teams plays and wind gusts reaching 52 miles per hour, Penn State was able to pull out a 23-18 win over Purdue. With the win, the Nittany Lions improve to 6-1 on the season and 3-0 in the Big Ten.
