We Want Your Best Canning Stories!

THON would not be possible without the hardworking efforts of everyone who took to the streets to go canning. Braving the cold, soliciting drivers, and coming up with the perfect canning dance are all challenges that canners must face in the search for that $20 dollar bill. But with all the challenges come memories that you'll remember forever.

So now, with a week to go until we storm the BJC, we'd like to take a look back at this year's fundraising season. We want to know:

What are your favorite canning stories from this last canning trip, or from this year?

Share your most memorable, emotional, or funny moments in the comments (or, if you have a longer story, send it in to the Community section!).  We'll feature the best stories in a post over THON weekend!

Late Layup Gives Penn State Win Over Indiana

The Penn State women's basketball team needed a big comeback and late-game heroics to beat Indiana on Sunday. Nikki Greene scored with 40 seconds to go to give the Lady Lions their first lead of the game, and Penn State went on to win 80-77. Next up for the Lady Lions is Ohio State on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Fashion Faux Pas? White Out T-Shirt Contest

It's that time of year again. THON is just days away, downtown stores are stocked with green apparel for State Patty's Day, and spring break plans are starting to shape up. But alas, this is Penn State, where football may be out of sight in February, but certainly not out of mind. Last night, the Daily Collegian released the four finalists for the 2011 Whiteout t-shirt, which students can vote on starting today and ending on Thursday at 5pm.

Check out all of the designs after the break, and let us know which one is your favorite.

Career Fair: Swag Tips

It's that time of the semester, when a bunch of recent alumni roll into town to relive the glory days and try to get you to apply for a job at their company. But before you dust off that suit and purchase overpriced resume paper from the bookstore, remember what career fairs are all about. Swag.

For the unaware, swag (reportedly) is an acronym for Stuff We All Get, but is basically all the junk that companies give out with their logo on it. If you're in desperate need of a new drawstring bag, a 2GB thumb drive, or a few dozen cheap pens, the career fair is your place. We've worked up a few tips to help you score the best swag the BJC has to offer.

Point/Counterpoint: PowerPoint

There has long been a debate in higher education as to the role of Powerpoint presentations. Do they streamline information and present it in a clear fashion, or do they distract from a teacher's lecturing? Are they tools to be cherished, or annoyances that come in the way of learning?

Well, we here at Onward State take that debate to heart. John Tecce and Devon Edwards took sides arguing for and against the ubiquitous classroom mechanism. For John, they're a distraction, and for Devon, they're a lifesaver. See how their arguments stack up in 5 different categories.

Battle Makes History in Rout of Northwestern

For just the second time in a decade, the Big Ten has a 2,000 career point scorer. Just five minutes into the game, Talor Battle hit a 3 point shot over Northwestern's Davide Curletti to move his career point total to 2,002. He finished the game with a game-leading 19 points, bringing his career total to 2,015.

That proved to be the most interesting part of the game by far, as a hot-shooting Nittany Lion team quickly blew past the Northwestern Wildcats, holding them to a season low 15 points in the first half and posting a final score of 65-41. Penn State shot 49% from the field and had double-digit point contributions from David Jackson, Jeff Brooks, and Tim Frasier.
