Distraction of the Day: Penn Stater Helps Out Yankees

It seems as though Penn Staters can't help but cause controversy at major league ball parks this season. Back in May, then-future Nittany Lion Steve Consalvi decided to run onto the field during a Phillies and got his ass tased. Great stuff for the whole family.

Well on Tuesday night during game four of the American League Championship Series, the New York Yankee second baseman hit a deep fly to right-center field.

Lantern Tours Guide From Past To Present

The Lion Ambassadors will host their annual Lantern Tours this evening from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. starting at Old Main. Don't miss this chance to cross a Penn State staple off your bucket list!

Lantern Tours should last approximately 45 minutes and will take you through an interactive view of Penn State's history as Lion Ambassadors bring to life characters such as George Atherton, Charles Schwab, Milton Eisenhower, and Evan Pugh. Free food will be provided as well as entertainment from a capella group Blue in the FACE, RAM Squad, and Whiplash Dance Team.

Turn Penn State Purple

All across the country today, people will be decked out in purple in support of young LGBT men and women who have taken their own lives due to homophobic abuse and discrimination. The national movement is being promoted by the Penn State Brandywine Gay-Straight Alliance, but is taking place at all campuses throughout the commonwealth.

Go Gaga Over the Goo Goo Dolls

Last night, the Eisenhower Auditorium was packed with screaming girls yelling all sorts of variations of "Take your shirt off." But this time, those screams weren't for Graham Spanier, as the auditorium hosted the Goo Goo Dolls with opening act the Spill Canvas.

Top Three Senior Class Gift Proposals

The Penn State Senior Class Gift Committee announced the top three senior class gift proposals today. Here they are, along with our descriptions:

Penn State Alma Mater Display
A visible display of the Penn State Alma Mater possibly placed outside the HUB or in the Pattee mall area, most likely inscribed in stone.

Lt. Michael P. Murphy/Penn State Veterans Plaza
A plaza built on campus to honor Penn State’s only Medal of Honor recipient, along with all other PSU veterans.

"Old Willow" Tree and Class of 2011 Trustee Scholarship
A willow tree planted in honor of “Old Willow“; would also include a plaque describing its history and importance (sounds like one expensive tree).

A Labor of Love: An Interview with Mimi Barash

The billboards along 322 approaching State College, Town and Gown magazine publisher, PSU trustee, real estate developer, community legend. While few current students may know Mimi Barash, she has had a hand in shaping PSU and State College. An advocate for students and the underdog, she is not afraid to call out perceived wrongs, or highlight achievements. On the day of her interview with Onward State Publisher Davis Shaver and this author, she wore a pin on both lapels of her blouse--a nittany lion and pink breast cancer awareness pin.
