No. 3 Penn State men's lacrosse remained undefeated in a rare Tuesday afternoon spring break faceoff against Furman today. Shaky defense made it a one-goal game late in the fourth, but dominant second and third quarters were enough to push the Nittany Lions (6-0) past the Paladins 12-10.
The point guard started in all 31 games this season, registering a team-high 13.2 points per game and 4.2 assists per game to become the first Nittany Lion selected to the All-Freshman team since 2006.
The Nittany Lions will join Pitt, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M for the tournament's Championship Rounds at the home of the Brooklyn Nets Nov. 20-21.
The sophomore earned the honor from the conference after his undefeated season, while Zain Retherford took Big Ten Championships Outstanding Wrestler for his title-winning performance.
The model of consistency so far this season, pitching, was tested as opponents' bats lit up the scoreboards during a three-game losing streak. But despite struggles at points this year, the Penn State offense managed to wrap up the weekend recording a season high in hits back-to-back games.
Pat Chambers will return for his seventh season next year as head coach of Penn State after going 6-12 in Big Ten play this year.
