The Songwriter’s Club hosted an open mic night event at the Big O last night. I was expecting half a dozen freshman boys sporting Puka shell necklaces playing catchy emo acoustic songs like a high school talent show.
Instead, I was pleasantly surprised. Although there was no shortage of shelled jewelry and even an acoustic redition of “Karma Police,” most of the kids came out to jam and showcase their own original songs.

I know what you’re thinking -- FINALLY. When I first heard Denny’s had come out with a Hobbit themed menu I went through several emotions all at once: shock, disbelief, disgust, and then something I can only describe as morbid curiosity. I’m a huge fan of Tolkein’s work so I figured I should at least look at the menu to see if it was worth checking out. At first glance the array of options, complete with pumpkin pancakes no less, was quite impressive. At Friday's Student Activity Fee Board meeting, voting member and UPUA Chairman Spencer Malloy motioned to form a subcommittee to discuss membership of the board, and more specifically, the voting status of the University Park Allocation Committee chair. UPAC is an organization comprised of University Park students that works to allocate a portion the student activity fee funds that we all pay separate from our tuition.

After last night’s election process, Penn State’s Panhellenic Council (@PennStatePHC) chose Rachel Franceschino (@rachelfran1) of Alpha Delta Pi as their new Executive President. Also the Governmental Affairs Chair of UPUA, Franceschino will work with seven other members of various sororities for a full year organizing events for the 22 chapters on campus. We sat down with Rachel for 10 questions about her new role with the PHC.
