Imagine trying to sell a product to consumers while just about everybody else in the world is bashing it. This was not supposed to be a real scenario; it was not part of the description when you volunteered for the job. Keep in mind that this is not some new innovative product without a track record, quite the contrary actually, as it has existed for over one hundred fifty years. It has been amazingly good to you. Currently, a few people associated with the product have tried to bring it down.
In light of recent events, the organizers of this year's TEDxPSU may have been concerned that the event might get lost in the fray. Despite it all, the community made a strong showing yesterday, filling up much of the allotted space in the HUB. Attendance probably should have been even higher since it was definitely worth seeing.The theme was Relics to Revolutionaries, and speakers including Michael Mann, Mia Bloom, Ian Rosenberger, and Joseph Michael Valente who covered topics as diverse as cyber charter schools, the involment of women in terrorist organizations, and making art from Twitter feeds.
Back on track, this week's Overall Series is all about Rules & Regulations, and their FeaR&Rless leader, Mairead Hanna. Hoping to bring some change to the committee, Hanna opens about her plans to make the Bryce Jordan Center, and all of THON the safest it can possibly be. And while this picture may lead you to believe otherwise, she does have hands. And yes, she loves dinosaurs. Let's rock and rule!
In just four days, Thanksgiving break will be upon us--and god, it could not have come at a better time. I think I speak for this entire university when I say that after the week we've had, a nice break is sorely needed.
But as it is wont to do, Thanksgiving break snuck up on you this year. You were so busy, you didn't see it coming. And now, you've got to get out of town by Friday and haven't figured out how you're getting home.
