You can't snag a Bud Light to go wonderfully with your chicken basket during Penn State football games, or any college sporting events, for that matter; but West Virginia University may soon change that. Would this ever happen at Beaver Stadium?
I was messing around on Facebook last Friday (what else is new?) and I stumbled across a post by Penn State Football asking for suggestions on songs to play at Beaver Stadium this coming fall. As a marketing major intending on working in the sports industry, this kind of thing is right up my alley, yet I was dismayed when I read the 200+ comments giving their input. Most of them absolutely sucked.
The Penn State football team suffered two big blows this week, as Curtis Drake and Pete Massaro both went down with leg injuries in spring practices. Both players were expected to be big contributers in the 2011 season. Drake suffered a fracture to his left tibia in practice last Thursday, and Massaro suffered a torn ACL in his left knee on Friday.
GQ magazine came out with their "Worst Sports Fans in America" list yesterday, and Penn State made a rather surprising appearance at #7.
It's worth mentioning that Penn State is joined on this list by some of the elite organizations in college and professional sports. Among the other teams considered to have the "worst fans in sports" were the Los Angeles Lakers (15), Dallas Cowboys (12), Montreal Canadiens (11), New York Yankees (9), Boston Red Sox (7), and Philadelphia Phillies (1, and the Eagles were ranked #2), as well as LSU football (10) and Duke basketball (8).

College athletics have changed in the past ten years when it comes to how much money schools are paying head coaches. It's becoming more and more clear that, in order to succeed in major college sports, you need to be willing to pay for high caliber coaches, and their salaries aren't looking to go down anytime soon. Which brings us to Penn State.
For the first time in decades, the Penn State football uniform is set for a change. According to the Allentown Morning Call, Guido D'Elia told a class at Penn State that the uniforms were likely to lose the contrasting trim on the sleeves and collar. The move brings the uniforms back to the Kerry Collins era styling and stands to make the already plain uniforms even more plain.
