Sandusky Hearing Live Blog

Jerry Sandusky, former Penn State defensive coordinator and founder of The Second Mile charity, is facing 52 charges related to the molestation of ten boys dating back to 1994 and as recent as 2009.

Today, his preliminary hearing is being held at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte, PA. Onward State will be in the courtroom and frequently updating this live blog, as well as @OnwardState, throughout the day.

11:35 a.m. – One final note. Amendola has also waived his client’s arraignment, originally scheduled for January 11. The next time we hear from Jerry Sundusky may not be until this summer, assuming it actually goes to a trial.

11:30 a.m. – Things seem to be slowing down in Bellefonte this morning. The much anticipated Sandusky preliminary hearing turned into an opportunity for his attorney Joe Amendola to hold an hour long press conference in front of the courthouse. In a day where the victims and prosecution were supposed to take center stage, we are all left packing up before lunch with no more answers than before.

11:22 a.m. – The attorney for Victim 4 released a statement on his client’s behalf outside the courtroom in Bellefonte.

10:54 a.m. – Sandusky’s attorney, Joe Amendola, finished up a lengthy question and answer session with the media. Find out what he said here.

9:52 a.m. – Joe Amendola has been fielding questions from the media outside the courtroom for about fifteen minutes explaining today’s decision and maintaining Sandusky’s innocence. Stay tuned for more details and quotes.

9:24 a.m. – Sandusky will be arraigned on January 11. Continue to check the homepage for posts and updates as they come in.

8:31 a.m. – Jerry Sandusky waives preliminary hearing.  

7:26 a.m. - One of the one hundred passes given to the general public.

 

6:35 a.m. - Media lined up outside of the Centre County Courthouse

6:31 a.m. – Good morning Bellefonte! The area outside the courthouse is already bustling with media filming segments for morning news shows.

ESPN Outside the Lines Reporter Bob Ley is filming a segment near the center of the pack. The hearing is set to begin in just under two hours. A large section of the press is camped out in the Dairy Queen across the street, vying for a position close to a wall outlet and utilizing the free internet connection.
